Personality:
From a distance, Lux is the epitome of the perfect Demacian. Bright, vivacious and selfless, she is strong in her convictions of what is right and wrong, and will fight to defend those who cannot or will not defend themselves. A lady of luminosity, she is very much Demacia’s light in a world plagued by darkness. However, light also casts the darkest shadows—and Lux is not immune to that fact.
On the surface, she is a charming and impossibly bright person, with a zest for life and an almost insatiable curiosity for the world around her. She is the type of person who can and will chat up everyone she meets, a woman who will always remember someone’s name and the smallest details about them. These things are important to her, and she genuinely loves being around people. It energizes her, feeding her natural curiosity and desire to know more about the world around her. It has been said that her presence is warm and welcoming, and it doesn’t take much effort for her to create a rapport with most people.
Her curiosity is something of a double-edged sword, however. She wants to know everything about everything, and everyone, and her methods are at times a bit pushy. Empathetic and observant, she has been known to be nosy, prying in business that she has no right sticking her nose in. But she does this because either she a) firmly believes that it is for the other person’s own good, or b) something that she has to know in order to solve a problem. She is a problem solver, and while she is good at lending an ear and a shoulder to those who need it, she will also take someone’s confiding in her as permission to act on their behalf. Usually it’s fine, but it isn’t unheard of for her to overstretch herself and her relationships with others in an effort to fix things. In short, she is a nosy meddler, but she means well.
Naturally altruistic, she will give everything of herself to make sure that other people are safe and taken care of. This hasn’t gotten her into trouble yet, but it is very easy for her to burn the candle at both ends and forget about her own needs or safety. She is the type that will go above and beyond in order to look after others, no matter who they are. Yes, she is fiercely loyal to her people and her country, but she isn’t the type to turn someone away just because they see the world differently. Turning her back on someone, especially a person who has nowhere else to turn, is reprehensible, and extremely un-Demacian by her definition. Demacians look out for others, and she embodies this core value in every facet of life.
Even if she sees herself as inherently un-Demacian, and has since she was a young child.
Her feelings on family and Demacian ideologies are complicated. If asked honestly, she would say that, while she will always fight for the people of Demacia, she doesn’t believe in the strict dogma that governs them. Born into nobility, as the second child and only daughter in a family pledged to protect the crown, her life has always been governed by duty and expectations. While she was taught how to fight and protect herself from an early age, she knew that she would never get a chance to use these skills. Her obligations were to the family; to take care of the estate and marry well. She learned to wield a sword and a sewing needle both, and while she wanted desperately to fight for others, she quietly despised her fate. She wished to protect her people, even if it was their societal expectations that held her back.
Lux also firmly believes that Truths are subjective, and that there is always more than one side to every story. Taught to believe that everything is black and white, she rebelled against this early, often pushing her teachers and tutors to look at things critically, refusing to believe that there is only one solution to every problem. In that respect, she was something of a trouble child for many of her teachers and tutors; however, she was able to get away with it due to her natural charm and sharp wit. As she has gotten older, she has learned to keep those thoughts to herself, and instead act first, rather than explain why she does what she does. She will, however, lay into someone that she knows if they act without considering all sides of a situation.
But if her disagreements with how society works were limited to these seemingly minor issues, she might be able to quietly tuck those disquieting thoughts aside. But there is something very different about Lux, something that she hides from her family and her people. She is a mage, in a country that sees magic as inherently evil. In many ways, she lives the worst kind of double life—wanting to fight for her people, but knowing that she will never be accepted for what she really is. It’s one of her best and worst-kept secrets; something she will happily confess to others who would not see her any differently, but will actively hide from those who matter the most in her life. There was a time when she wished that she could be normal, that she wasn’t “afflicted with magic.” Lux says that she refuses to hide that part of herself, and that is true—situationally. Her magic is beautiful, and she declares proudly doesn’t have dark secrets, only bright ones… like the light that flows through her.
In an effort to keep that light from flowing forth, she has fierce hold over her own emotions. This comes from years of practice, and the face that she puts out in public is often tempered in an effort to keep control over herself, her image, and her powers. To that end, Lux keeps a lot of her inner thoughts, anger, and conflicts to herself, forcing them as far back in her own mind as possible. She makes friends easily, insisting that they confide in her, but keeping them at arm’s length. Focused heavily on keeping up that appearance of being a light in the darkness, she places a lot of importance on her own, heavily-curated image. She doesn’t want to be rejected, she doesn’t want to be feared, and she understands that for most of the people who she stands to protect, this means only letting them see what they want to see. It’s a lonely existence, and most of the time she is able to grin and bear it. It is important for her to keep smiling. But if she does manage to create those deeper bonds with others (something she shies away from), she holds tight to them. Lux will gladly die for those who manage to strip those layers away.
On the surface, Lux is an intelligent, vivacious and fiercely loyal leader-type who wants to spread her light through the world. And, for the most part, she is effective in doing so. She places others far above herself, becoming the luminous and giving soul that she feels she has to be. But she is not without her flaws or inner demons—but she does not let them stand in her way of doing what is right.
Abilities & Skills:
In-game skills can be found here.
Lux's specialty is in light magic, although it has been noted that she has aptitude in other forms of elemental magic as well. Able to make herself disappear at the drop of a hat, shaping illusions and charming both staff and family friends (when she wasn't playing reasonably harmless tricks on them), Moreover, she has a knack for being able to understand her own abilities (and the abilities of others) to an absurd degree, memorizing and restructuring spells she witnessed only once and making them into her own.
While she is still able to meld light to her will, and has the uncanny ability to restructure and reverse-engineer spells, secretly training for a number of years in the forests of Demacia has offered her a few offensive cards to her deck:
- Illumination: When Lux hits one of her opponents with a spell, she temporarily marks them with a beacon of light. Acting almost like a magical bomb, it activates when she hits her opponent again with either a basic light spell or her ultimate technique, Final Spark.
- Light Binding: A spell she modified from another person, she snares an opponent in place. This spell can hit multiple targets, but it loses its efficacy with each person it hits. This also marks her opponents with her Illumination.
- Prismatic Barrier: Lux's main protection spell, which she can cast on multiple people within a close vicinity, herself included. With a limited duration, it can absorb partial damage for a very short amount of time.
- Lucent Singularity: Lux's main offensive attack, she throws out a prismatic ball of light which she can detonate from a distance; the blast radius on it is small, but this spell can hit multiple targets. Like her Light Binding spell, this also marks her opponents with Illumination.
- Final Spark: A full body prismatic laser with insane range. It does take her time to charge it, but is extremely potent, especially when coupled with Illumination.
Traveling on hunts with her father and brother from an early age, she is a natural fighter, although her specialties lend themselves more toward indirect attacks and subterfuge rather than direct, blunt force.
